I’ve been a loyal customer of Forbidden Leaf for nearly two years, spending hundreds of dollars a week and supporting the business in every way I could. For a long time, the rewards system through Clover made it worthwhile to shop locally instead of ordering online. Spending $420 earned you 20% off, and given how much I spend, that discount was essential. Unfortunately, Clover stopped servicing vape shops a few weeks ago, which meant the rewards system was dissolved. I was bummed, but hopeful they’d come up with something fair. Instead, they rolled out punch cards that required 10 punches for 20% off. The problem? You only get one punch per visit, no matter how much you spend — whether it’s $10 or $300. That means a loyal customer like me, who often spends $200+ in a single visit, gets the same “credit” as someone who buys a disposable for $11. By that logic, it takes $1,000+ in spending to get a $40–$60 discount. That’s not an incentive, it’s discouraging. I also heard employees openly acknowledge customers were splitting up purchases to maximize stamps, which is exactly what happens when the system isn’t based on dollar amounts. A fairer system would have been something like “1 punch for every $50 spent,” with a $10 minimum. That way, customers who spend more are properly credited, and there’s no reason to game the system. Then came the breaking point: one customer tried to use a fraudulent punch card. Management caught it immediately and handled it. But instead of addressing the one dishonest customer, they scrapped the entire program — punishing every single loyal, hardworking customer who has kept them in business. To hear the owner even admit to a customer that “I don’t make any money when you get your 20% discount” was both shocking and disheartening. The reason I switched to Forbidden Leaf in the first place was because their rewards made buying locally competitive with online pricing. Without that, I can no longer justify shopping here. My online supplier may charge a few dollars more per unit, but their bulk discounts are fair, transparent, and actually save me money — 25% off $250 or more, 20% off $125 or more. With Forbidden Leaf dropping their rewards entirely, the math no longer works. I truly loved shopping here — the staff has always been friendly, and the atmosphere is great. But Casper has supported this business and contributed to its rapid growth, and it feels like that loyalty isn’t being returned. To throw away a customer rewards system completely because of “the hassle” or one dishonest customer is shortsighted. There are plenty of other systems available, or even manual ones that could be done fairly with just a little effort. I don’t typically leave reviews because I don’t see the point in taking singular encounters between people and applying it to a whole business. However, this is affecting all of the customers who participated in their loyalty program and while it makes me incredibly sad to take my business elsewhere, but I can’t afford not to. I hope they reconsider, because the way this was handled shows a lack of concern for the very customers who helped build their success. ***their notice said they have coupons available in the prairie peddler and tidbits… but these discounts don’t remotely compare to what was offered through their rewards program. It’s also quite a bit of work for customers who shop here regularly**
